INVASIVE X - SAVING LAKES ONE AT A TIME
Speaker(s): Jennifer Nelson (EPHS Computer Science & Math Teacher), Students – Jacob Thomas, Elsa Hauschild and James Hilton
The students designed an App which shares an interest in water activities through social media coupled with an educational component which identifies the invasive species present in the lakes selected. The social media component will allow the users to share information about the lake, even how the fish are biting.
The development team consists of:

Coders – Liam Conboy and Mark Kelley
Huckster – Sammie Houston
Project Manager – Elsa Hauschild
The team started with the Intro to Computer Science course and have been working on the concept since October. They entered a Verizon App Challenge and won best in state. Their next step is to pitch the idea to the DNR and link the App to the DNR database which connects the App to the information about the lakes.

SPOTLIGHT ON GLENN OLSON
Glenn said he had 35 – 40 jobs between the ages of 10 and 24. He obtained a Masters in Chemistry and Biology. He started selling insurance and found satisfaction in helping people and building a successful agency in the process. In retirement Glenn and his wife enjoy traveling and spending time with grandchildren. They spend as much time as possible at their farm in the Park Rapids area. Glenn enjoys woodworking, hunting, fishing AND ROTARY. Glenn is proud to belong to a club that helps so many locally and throughout the world.
