SERVICES FOR SENIOR LIVING THROUGH AVINITY

imageCEO Dale Fargre shared that Avinity, formerly known as Twin Cities Christian Homes (TCCH), was founded in 1970 by a group of individuals from the Minnesota Baptist Conference with a vision to build a retirement home in a Christian setting. In 1983, the dream was realized with the opening of a health care center in Eden Prairie.  In 1984, they created its first senior housing community for people with very low incomes, which was the birth of Edendale, a HUD community serving very low-income seniors.

Avinity focuses on the affordable to low income market at five owned communities :Edendale in Eden Prairie, WestRidge in Minnetonka,  Mainstreet Village in Richfield, Scandia Shores in Shoreview, Lee Center in Hibbing, In addition they are acquiring Mill Pond Gables in Champlin and manage Care-Age which is an assisted living campus near Park Rapids. It also operates its own home care agency and manages a wide range of supportive services including dining programs, transportation, activities, social services and spiritual care. Avinity serves more than 800 low-to-moderate income seniors throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.

Sarah Carlson, residential services coordinator at Edendale in Eden Prairie, talked about programs and services they offer there and their efforts to establish a media center for the seniors to access technology. She invited us to come and volunteer for a one-time or ongoing project. Jennifer Crosby Zarth, director of the Avinity Foundation talked about fundraising they are doing to expand services and she asked us to consider helping fund the media center.
