27th Annual Golden Eagle Awards Breakfast with Keynote Address by Jerry Kill - Head Coach of the University of Minnesota Football Team
Coach Kill has been head coach at Minnesota since December 2010. He delivered an inspirational message starting off with his philosophy that “Every day is a great day!” He encouraged the students to cherish their memories and be proud of their accomplishments. Coach Kill said, “God gave us only one mouth but two ears” so we can listen. The transition to college from high school gets more difficult so it is important to continue to apply yourself the same way you did in high school but take it to the next level. Coach Kill said that he has been successful because he treats people well and surrounds himself with good people. He concluded by stating, “The same principles that made you successful in athletics and academics will apply in your careers.” Golden Eagle Committee Chairman David Anderson provided a number of statistics for the twenty student athletes including:
Overall GPA 3.882 (2 students were 4.0 and thirteen of twenty were 3.9 or better),
They earned 111 letters,
23 Captains, and
Numerous All-Conference, All-State and academic All-Americans
