Jan was first elected to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners in 2008 and elected Chair in 2014. County commissioners provide leadership and oversight for county government, including transportation and public works, health programs, libraries, social services, law enforcement, corrections, public records and environmental services. Jan is committed to responding to today’s challenges with practical, common-sense leadership; innovative practices; and fiscal responsibility, as well as building toward the future.

Rep. Selcer, an active Eden Prairie AM Rotarian, represents parts of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka in the Minnesota House of Representatives. She serves on Education Finance, Education Innovation Policy, Government Operations and Elections Policy and Subcommittee on Metropolitan Council Accountability and Transparency.
Rep. Selcer highlighted:
K – 12 Omnibus Education bill which provided $100 million in early childhood education, 2% increase in school district funding, STEM funding.
The higher education bill provides low income students free tuition to two year schools in high-tech fields where jobs exceed available candidates. The University of MN and MNSCU universities are now going to be required to work with students on completion plans and report progress.
Jobs bill funding programs to create jobs and training programs.
Require one-third of any surplus must go to reserve fund for future economic downturns. The reserve fund is expected to total $1.7B in November 2015.
Unable to fund needed transportation in non-bonding year.
Chief author of Southwest Light Rail bond which did not pass.
No tax bill this year but looking forward to advocating for tax relief for small to medium size business.
$52M funding for child protection.
$2M funding for homeless youth initiatives.
$63M funding for MN Mental Health System
Appointed 29 member commission to develop recommendations for improving health care delivery and quality initiatives.
In summary, they did a lot of good things but Representative Selcer was not pleased that the session did not finish on time and she refused her per diem. Legislators are “working on ways to avoid last minute wrangling”.

SPOTLIGHT ON ROY TERWILLIGER
Roy grew up one of four boys in a small town in South Dakota. He attended the University of South Dakota and University of Iowa. Started out pre-law but ended up working toward a position as City Manager and worked under the Golden Valley City Manager who later became Eden Prairie’s city manager. He worked as a lobbyist for the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and later moved into banking industry and moved from Huron, SD to Connecticut where he lobbied for the banking industry until settling in Eden Prairie and started Suburban National Bank which was later acquired by US Bank. Roy still serves as a Board Member of Flagship Bank. Roy served in the Minnesota Senate and chaired the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission for eight years. He is currently working toward his Series 6 license.
